10 Best Pop Covers of Classic Christmas Songs

The birds are singing, the sky is clear, and it’s 67° outside.

Not the most traditional background for playing Christmas songs, but for many people, a non-traditional Christmas is the best kind!

So what better way to prep for the holidays than to hear how artists have covered and re-done your favorites? Here are our picks for the best pop covers of classic Christmas- some old, some new, all fantastic.

10. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Andrew Belle

This one verges a little more on the rock side of pop music, but his cover changes the pop elements to give this a little more depth. Even if you’re doubtful, we’re sure something in his arrangement will stir you!

9. Winter Wonderland, The Sweeplings

If the lead singer here sounds familiar, you’re ear is right – she was a member of The Civil Wars before joining The Sweeplings. We love the changes they made that make this a contemporary song while still having all the charm of the original.

 8. I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day, Echosmith

Another rock-pop combo! We miss Echosmith, but this song totally makes up for it. They do a great job at covering this Carpenter’s classic.

7. Merry Christmas Darling, Christina Perri

Some Christmas covers work because of how much they change the original arrangement – this is not the case with Christina Perri. This version works because she stays close to Karen Carpenter’s original arrangement!

6. Silent Night, Destiny’s Child ft. Beyoncé

Even in 2000, we knew. Revisit Beyoncé girl-group days with her incredibly-90’s cover of this classic.

5. White Christmas, Kelly Clarkson

Her Christmas album is seriously underrated, and this song in particular is underplayed. Check it out and be reminded of why she was the first American Idol.

4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas, Pentatonix

Our personal favorite from their latest Christmas album! It’s the perfect mix of classic and contemporary melodies, and jazz and pop elements. You’ll find yourself singing along by the third play, tops.

3. The Christmas Song – Holiday Remix, Christina Aguilera

Her voice is just perfect for this song – we hear this one almost more than the original!

 2. It’s Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas, Michael Bublé

We had to include, you know this was in the back of your mind when you clicked on this! It’s hard to top this version, it makes us forget who made the original! (hint: it was the Fontane Sisters)

1. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Sam Smith

Sam Smith can do no wrong, and this song is Exhibit A. The backing is simple and a perfect compliment, his melody is true to the original while giving it a Sam Smith-style twist, and it can truly not offend anyone. Jackpot.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours!
